Mountain Man

My father rode
Up from the southern heat
My mother walked
With cold and blackened feet
Until they stood
Staring face to face
Lit a fire
Built a house
And planted seeds to find
That over time
A broken heart will grow a broken mind
And see
The broken heart in me

I’m a mountain man
Climbing up to stand
Seeing all a weary eye can see
Come and rescue me

I try to turn
And face the other sea
But I’m the peak
And all things rise to me
All joy and pain
Are waiting at my feet
No avalanche
Could sweep away and bury
All this fire
That keeps alive
The thought that time will wear down even I
That stone
Will no longer serve a purpose as a home

I’m a mountain man
Climbing up to stand
Seeing all a weary can see
Come and rescue me
Come and rescue me
